Shelly Sobels Chala French Toast...NOT LOW FAT but really raelly good

1 large Chala
6 eggs
3 cups whole milk ( I used skim Lactose)
1\2 tsp cinnamon or nutmeg
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup packed brown sugar
3 cups berries
1\2 cup pure maple syrup (has to be the real stuff)
1 tbsp lemon juice

Butter 13 x 9 baking dish. Cut chala into 1" slices and then cut into quarters and arrange in 2 layers in baking dish. Whisk together eggs, milk, cinnamon or nutmeg, vanilla & 3\4 cup of the brown sugar and pour evenly over bread. (I did one layer first with the egg and then I placed the second layer and poured the rest over). Chill mixture, covered until all liquid has absorbed into bread (I left it in the fridge overnight).

Preheat oven to 400.

Melt 1\2 stick butter with the remaining 1\4 cup brown sugar, stirring until well blended. Drizzle mixture over bread and bake 45 to 50 minutes, uncovered. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving. Can be made in advance and warmed before serving.
